11 Aldi Products Better Than the Brand Name
Big savings don't have to mean making sacrifices in flavor or quality. Really!
Aldi might not offer everything your regular grocery store stocks, but many of their store-brand products make it worth an extra stop. We curated this list of our favorite Aldi offerings based on our personal experiences and internet reviews.
You might not agree with all of our opinions (they are truly a matter of personal taste). But we're willing to bet you'll love at least a few of Aldi's store brand offerings.
1. Burman's Ketchup
If you're like us, you would never think of switching from Heinz Ketchup. It's consistently ranked as the top tomato condiment in the United States, thanks to its recognizable flavor and high-quality ingredients.
However, if you want to save a bit, Burman's Ketchup is shockingly good. We'd go as far as to say it's comparable to Heinz. In a blind taste test, it'd be difficult to tell the difference.
2. Canned Broth
Aldi has a number of canned broth options that you should probably check out. Their chicken and beef broth and stock are often less than half the price of other stores, but it tastes just as good, if not better.
However, you may want to stay away from their Simply Nature Bone Broths. The reviews on this particular product are mixed, with some saying it tastes bitter and burnt.
3. Elevation Only Bars
Aldi's Elevation line includes protein powders, shakes, and bars for fitness-conscious consumers. All of these products are a steal, but we're particular fans of their Elevation Only bars.
In our opinion, they're almost identical to popular KIND bars, but they cost far less. We love the simple ingredients (nuts, dark chocolate, and sea salt) and their exceptionally low price.
4. Benton's Cookie Thins
When you need a sweet treat, you might want to pick up a box of Benton's Cookie Thins. Comparable to Tate's Bake Shop cookies, Benton's Cookie Thins are crispy and crunchy but perfectly sweet.
Their thin-cooked style and small size also keep them low in calories. You can eat six without topping 150 calories.
5. Breakfast Best Waffles
If Eggo Waffles are part of your favorite breakfast, you should check out Aldi's Breakfast Best Waffles. They cost significantly less, and though they aren't a perfect substitute, they're incredibly popular for good reason.
The Breakfast Best waffles are a little denser than Eggo's, which some of us prefer. Though they're slightly higher in calories, we think they're more than worth it. The flavor is fantastic, which is probably why they're often sold out at our local store.
6. Benton's Fig Bars
Many of us grew up enjoying Fig Newtons. However, rising costs and smaller package sizes are driving some of us to look for alternatives to our nostalgic snack favorite.
If that describes you, look no further than Benton's Fig Bars. These cookie bars are almost indistinguishable from the name-brand option. They're sweet, soft, and delicious.
7. Friendly Farms Moo Tubes
Squeezable yogurt, often known by its name brand moniker “GoGurt,” is a staple in many homes with kids. That might be why so many people are big fans of Aldi's Friendly Farms Moo Tubes.
These low-fat, portable yogurt tubes are perfect for kids of all ages. They come in great flavors, are shockingly low-cost, and we think they taste better than the big brand options.
8. Savoritz Saltines
If you've been paying top dollar for Nabisco Premium Saltines, you're making a mistake. Aldi's Savoritz Saltine crackers are better than the big-name brand, in our opinion.
Crispy, salty, and perfect on top of creamy soup, the Savoritz Saltines are a must-have pantry item. They also cost far less than the brand name option.
9. Millville Fruit & Grain Soft Baked Bar
Nutri-Grain bars are a popular snack, and we understand why. They're conveniently portable, just sweet enough, and offer more nutritional value than other on-the-go options.
However, there's no need to pay top dollar for Nutri-Grain. Millville Fruit and Grain bars from Aldi taste exactly the same, and they cost significantly less.
10. Simms Teriyaki Beef Jerky
Beef Jerky is a pricey snack, especially if you're set on buying name brands like Oberto, Jack Links, or Krave. Of course, if you head to Aldi, you can get beef jerky that tastes just as good for a lower price.
Simms Beef Jerky comes in several flavors, but we think the Teriyaki option is the best one. Our only gripe is that Aldi doesn't sell it in bigger bags!
11. L'Oven Fresh Classic Kaiser Buns
Burgers are a staple in many households, and every burger lover knows the bun you pick matters. Often, opting for a store-brand bun means making a major sacrifice. It might cost less, but it often breaks down beneath the burger juices, has absolutely no flavor, or has a dry and unappealing texture.
None of that is true of Aldi's L'Oven Fresh Classic Kaiser Buns. These burger buns are better than many name-brand choices, and they cost far less.
The Magic of Aldi
Aldi's low prices feel like magic in this economy. Incredibly, the store doesn't sacrifice quality in order to offer you sweet savings.
They use several tactics to keep prices down. One of them is to offer high-quality store brands. According to an interview with store spokesperson Karla Wattleton for Fox News, all of Aldi store brands meet or exceed the quality levels of other national brands.
