Planning your vacation

There are various options open to you when it comes to booking an adventure holiday. You could contact an agent with expertise in activity breaks. Or you could plan your own trip. All you need to do is work out where to go, and how to get there. Choose a location that offers the kinds of activities that interest you, and factor in travel time. Do you really want to be driving for hours for a weekend away? Take a look at a map, and do some research online. You may also find guidebooks helpful. Once you’ve chosen the perfect location, think about transport. Do you want to drive and then camp? Or are you thinking about buying or hiring an RV? Pitching a tent may be a cheaper option. But if you look online for used travel trailers, you may be able to get a bargain. If you take vacations on a regular basis, this could be a wise investment. When you’ve decided on your mode of transport, work out your route. Planning ahead can save you time, and reduce the risk of getting lost.

Packing tips

Packing for an action-packed outdoor vacation is very different to packing for a beach break. You’ll need plenty of layers and warm clothes. Even in the height of summer, the weather can be unpredictable if you’re up in the mountains or hiking through the forests. Take a good-quality waterproof jacket with you. You’ll also need sturdy, comfortable walking shoes, and a first aid kit. Ideally, your first aid kit should contain dressings, saline solution, and pain killers. You’ll also need band aids, bandages, and any medication you take. It’s also a good idea to take antihistamines and antiseptic cream. Pack some games, books, and some speakers to keep you entertained at night. Don’t forget your camera and a charger. If you’re planning to go hiking, take a map and compass with you. Stock up on food for the journey and some snacks to take you with on bike rides and walks. If you’re camping out in a tent, you should make sure that you have a stove and basic cooking equipment. You may also want to visit a grocery store before you set off, as options may be limited at local stores.

Getting in the zone

When you go on vacation, you often use the time to chill out and take a break. With an adventure holiday, there’s an opportunity to try new things and challenge yourself. It doesn’t have to be frantic all the time. But be brave, test your mettle, and be open to new experiences. You’ll be amazed at how incredible you feel if you reach the top of a mountain or you land the catch of the day.
