Location

The great thing about log homes is that they’re usually found in lovely locations. Very rarely will you walk down an urban street and find log homes standing next to each other. They’re normally seen in rural locations or big open spaces. What you want to do is look for a log home in a nice location. Find one in the best place possible. You’ll want one that’s in a secluded area, and that comes with lots of land. Having a huge garden is important because it’s a nice place for your kids to play in. With some log homes, you can literally be situated next to massive open fields! Also, if you really want the best location for your home, try and find one that’s near a lake. A house by a lake is very peaceful, and it looks brilliant too.

Log Quality

You should always make sure you’re looking for a log home that is made out of quality wood. The kind of stuff that won’t break down and get mouldy easily. It has to stand the test of time and be able to do battle with the elements. If it can’t do this, then you shouldn’t buy it. Of course, there are things like log home chinking that can help prolong the wooden structure. But, it’s best to find a home with good quality logs and then apply it to that. You want to use these things to make good log homes even better. Not to try and make a substandard log home last longer. The bottom line is; you need to ensure the logs are of the highest quality possible.

Size

The size of your log home will also be crucial. You’ll need to find one that can comfortably house your family. There must be enough space for you to be able to live in, without it being too cluttered. Think about how many bedrooms you’ll need, and then search for a suitable home. Also, think about whether or not you’ll need a log home with two floors or not. You can save a lot of money if you opt for one that only has a ground floor.

Insulation

This is something that’s important for any home but particularly important for log houses. Homes made completely from log can be poorly insulated. So, you’ll want to check that the homes you’re looking at are insulated well. If you find a log home that has proper insulation, then you’re on to a winner! Don’t settle for one that isn't, or you’ll end up with very cold winters and very hot summers.
