We all need a good weekend project to get stuck into. It gives us something to focus on, and we’ll improve the quality of our house. If you’re feeling the need to make a big change in the house, set aside two days, and take on a big project. There are tons of DIY home improvement ideas out there; you just need to pick one! In this post, we’re looking through some of the best ideas. We’ve tried each of them ourselves recently, and they’re all simple jobs. So, clear your schedule, and get to work!
Replace your kitchen fixtures and fittings
Many people think they need to replace their entire kitchen cabinets to make a big change. It’s actually much easier than that. All you need to do is replace the simple fixtures and fittings, and you’ll transform the entire look. We’re talking about doorknobs, window fixtures, and kitchen hooks here. Get your hands on some brand new, shiny fixtures, and replace the old ones. It’s such an easy job, but it will give your kitchen a new lease of life. If you do decide to go ahead and upgrade the whole kitchen, you may want to consider dumpster rental to get rid of all the old cabinets you no longer need.
Build a bookcase
This task is a bit more of a challenge. But, it’s a lot more rewarding too! There’s something very rewarding and fulfilling about building your own furniture. If you take it step-by-step, and approach it slowly, it’s a fairly simple job. You’ll need to purchase some good quality wood to work with. We suggest visiting a timber and ‘building merchants, George Hill‘to find the best. They may even help you cut it down to size. If not, you’ll need an electric saw, and a lot of careful measurements. You can either nail it all together or use a strong adhesive.
Paint the house
Sometimes, a lick of paint is all it takes to breathe new life into the home. A splash of colour can create an entirely new character or personality for the house. If it’s looking tired and worn out, use a fresh, neutral colour to inject some life into it. If you’re looking for something with a bit more character, try a deep, warm colour. One of our favourite interior design tricks is using a statement wall. That means painting just one wall of a room a bold colour to attract attention. Try it for yourself.
Sort out the garden for winter
As the Autumn months slowly come to an end, it’s time to embrace winter. It’s time to prepare your home for the colder weather, and tidy up the garden. The garden tends to bear the burden of the icy winter. The cold freezes the ground, and destroys plants. The rain will rust your garden tools, and the wind will slowly destroy your fences. Take some time this weekend to clear out any dying plants. Give the lawn one last trim, and spray it with weed killer to prepare it for the winter. Put your tools in a dry storage area, and give your fences a good coat of varnish and protection. All that’s left to do is get inside and wrap up warm for winter!
That should give you plenty to get on with this weekend! Good luck!
