How to Celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Lake District
It's hard to believe it but we are almost at the end of 2021. It has been an odd year, full of ups and downs and as we head towards 2022 its time to say goodbye to the old year and welcome in what we hope will be a much more settled one with a brighter outlook. For many people, New Year’s Eve is a great time to take the opportunity to go away for a few days and really make a big occasion of the celebrations.
If you are considering how you might celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Lake District then read on as we consider some of the things you might like to do.
Find a great hotel
For many, staying in a hotel for New Year’s Eve is a great way to ring in the New Year and usher out the old one; it is making having a drink, or two, an option as there is no need to drive home. The Lake District is home to some incredible hotels like Inn on the Square so there are plenty of different options available.
Quite often you will find that there will be a special New Year’s Eve event on at a hotel which will make a great way to celebrate. If you are looking for fantastic accommodation and stunning food with entertainment provided, then staying in a hotel will offer you all of this and is a great alternative way to spend the New Year without having to do all of the hard work involved in creating your own New Year’s Eve event at home.
Walk around a lake
Taking a walk on New Year’s Day is a great way to blast away the cobwebs, and any headaches you might have from the day before. The Lake District has some rather spectacular scenery that is sure to help you achieve this. Great views are never far from any location in the Lake District so whether you want to take a short stroll or something a little more strenuous you are sure to find the perfect route from just outside the door of your hotel. If you are new to the Lake District, your hotel will be more than happy to suggest a suitable walk for you. There are a number of Lake District locations where you can even take a walk around a lake, or at least part of one as well. Is there really any better way to start the New Year than with some fresh air before returning to your hotel for a fantastic meal?
Take in a play
If you are often too busy to treat yourself to an evening out, then why not see if you can find a play to see whilst you are in the Lake District. There are a number of small theatres dotted all over the Lake District offering a really good selection of dramas to see. If this is something that you might be interested in, then you should book as soon as possible because places may be limited.
Go for a lake cruise
The Lake District is home to sixteen different lakes, although only one, Bassenthwaite Lake, is officially a lake. Some of them offer cruises, which are a great way to explore the local area and see the scenery without having to do too much walking. Whether you opt for a circular cruise that will take you all around a lake or something that has a variety of pick up and drop off points this really is a great way to take in the scenery.
New Year's Eve in the Lakes could be a great base from which to start 2022, and if you find the right accommodation, you may decide to return again to take in the Lakes in the summer season too.
