Keeping your kids entertained is not easy. This is especially true if you have children that have a big age gap. You have to think carefully about what to do, but here are some fun ideas to try.

Get Creative as a Family

Getting creative is great fun, so make sure you spend some time fostering your children’s creative side. All children are free spirits, so they can all get creative. It’s just a case of finding what kinds of creativity are best for them and which they enjoy most. You could learn to play an instrument with them. Doing something like that together is a great way to build a relationship with your child and get creative at the same time.

You could think outside the box a bit and do something like creating a movie. Home movies are great, but why not make a family project out of it? You could write a script and act it out. The technology that we all now have make this perfectly possible. We all have phones with sound and video recording possibilities. Trust me, it’s great fun, so give it a try.

Make the Most of Technology

Technology isn’t something to avoid when it comes to keeping the kids busy. Putting the TV on and letting them watch something they love has a bad reputation these days, but that’s a little unfair if you ask me. There are plenty of benefits to letting your kids use technology like computers, consoles and TVs. For a start, it allows you to do other important things while the kids relax without your supervision.

And there’s also the fact that entertainment is not the devil. We’ve become obsessed the idea that too much television will make your kids stupid, and, frankly, it’s a complete load of nonsense. Of course, you need to make sure they spend doing other things too, but letting them watch television isn’t such a bad thing. Having a subscription to a service like Gilded TV represents money well spent for parents.

Take Regular Trips

Getting out of the house is vital for family fun. Staying cooped up in the house is not good for anyone. Seeing new places and new sights will not only keep your kids entertained, but it’ll also open their minds to new ideas and concepts that may previously have been completely unknown to them. There are all kinds of fun activities and places to go for kids, so make the most of what’s at your disposal by researching what you can do in your local area.

These trips should combine fun with education. This might sound quite hard to achieve, but it’s actually quite simple to achieve. Most of the work is already done for you by the great people who run museums and children's attractions up and down the country. You could take the family to a natural history museum, and the kids and adults alike will be enthralled by the exhibitions on dinosaurs and animals. And even if they don’t realise it, they’ll be learning things in the process.
