Did you know that moving home is one of the most stressful transitions we will go through in life? As a result, fewer of us are choosing to move house these days with more and more of us preferring to stay stuck in homes that are slightly too cramped. But hey, it’s a lot easier, right? Well, moving house doesn’t have to be quite as stressful as you may think. In fact, there are many things that you can do to make it go easier for you. Here are some of my favorite tips to help your move go smoothly.
Write A Plan
Trying to get the move done all in one day? Then you will find that a moving plan comes in very handy. Make sure that it has all your expected times in, such as the time the moving company will arrive and the time you want to set out to your new home. Print out numerous copies of your plan and make sure everyone who is helping out on the day has one.
Pack Well In Advance
Don’t leave all of your packing until the day before you are due to move out. It will turn into one big rush, and you may end up forgetting or damaging important items. Ideally, you need to start packing up everything a week before your moving day. This will give you plenty of time to make sure that you have enough boxes for everything. You can also take your time to make sure that everything is protected and that there is no chance of breaking any valuables.
Don’t Do It Alone
Many people think that moving without the help of some cross country moving companies will help them to save money. That may be true, but it will increase the amount of stress you feel on moving day! That’s because you will have to find a van to hire and load and unload all your belongings to it all on your own. Not only that, though, but you will also have to drive yourself. Hiring a moving firm is a lot more convenient as they will do all the heavy lifting for you, and you can relax while their driver is behind the wheel!
Send The Kids Away
The kids won’t be much of a help on moving day, so it is a good idea to try and get them out of the picture. If possible, you should try and plan moving day for a weekday when the kids are at school. If you and your partner work full time and can only move on a weekend, then you should see if a close friend or relative can look after your children. But what happens if no one is available? Well, if your kids are old enough, you should give them small jobs to do through the day. That way, they will be kept busy and will stay out of trouble and mischief!
Hopefully, this blog post makes your moving day a whole lot easier!
