When the clock strikes midnight on December 31st you get the chance to experience a brand new year, a blank slate. This is the time to try new things and become the best version of yourself possible. Take this year seriously, set new goals, try new hobbies, make new friends, and most importantly, step out of your comfort zone.

We all have a comfort zone that we hang out in regularly because it feels safe and familiar. However, 2023 is the time to step out of it and into a new beginning. You don’t have to do anything too wild, but make a promise to yourself that you will step out of your comfort zone at least once a month in 2023. If you’re not sure what new adventures to embark upon here are some ideas!

Make a New Friend

If you feel isolated and lonely it might be a great time for you to meet new people. Due to what has been going on in our world these past couple of years, socialization can be difficult. You may no longer feel comfortable in large social settings or socializing with new people. This new year is the perfect time to battle that social anxiety and get back out there.

Start off 2023 by socializing and surrounding yourself with amazing people. Surrounding yourself with people who love and support you is important for your mental health. For example, taking some group fitness classes, going to town events or fundraisers, and finding some people who have similar lifestyles, goals, or passions as you!

If it is difficult and challenging for you to join or seek out social situations it could be from social anxiety. Seeking professional help as well as trying a form of treatment for social anxiety can help you combat the difficulties you are experiencing. Talk to your doctor and see what approach is the best fit for you. Having this type of support will make it easier for you to work on your social skills and feel more comfortable in social settings.

Find a New Hobby

Are you looking to find a new passion? Something that excites you and gives you joy? Take some time at the beginning of this year to try out some new activities and even find a new hobby. Many hobbies like cycling, hiking, knitting, drawing, and more can be a great addition to your usual routine and give you something new to look forward to every day.

While you are trying to find a good new hobby for yourself, think about the goals you have set for the year. If you want to be more active, then your hobby might be something outdoors or fitness related. If you want to be more social, your hobby might be some sort of team-related activity. Set your goals, and then try out some related activities and give them a go. Even if it doesn’t become your passion you can still be proud you gave it a try.

Learn a New Skill

Finding new ways to expand your knowledge and skills is always positive. Take time this year to hone in on a new skill. You could try to learn to cook, to paint or even learn a new language. Whatever you decide, there are many resources online that will help you learn whatever skill it is, you just have to stay determined and committed to learning.

For example, if you want to learn a new language because you have an upcoming trip, try the Babbel app and spend some time everyday learning. Although learning something takes a lot of time, by the end of the year this new skill will have become a habit!

Set a New Goal, AND Achieve it!

Throughout this year make sure you are setting personal goals for yourself. Some big and some small. Give yourself a pat on the back when you achieve each of them. Set a goal for the near future and one for the end of the year.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is not an easy thing to do no matter what age you are. This year, challenge yourself and become the best version of yourself. Try something new, learn something new, and meet someone new after a few weeks it will become a habit.
