The 13 Most Reliable Cars Under $30,000

Buying a car is one of the most significant choices we can make. Some people want something fun and agile, while others may want comfortable transportation for the family. However, everyone can agree on the importance of a vehicle's reliability.

The more reliable the car, the longer it will last. The longer it lasts, the better the value for your money, especially when you've budgeted for a moderate price. Unfortunately, finding any new car now for under $30,000 is a tough ask, especially a reliable one. Thankfully, there are still plenty on the market to choose from.

We looked through the $30,000 car market and pinpointed 13 reliable cars you may want to consider. Along with reliability, we looked at whether they're a package worth your money.

For the money, you get an excellent sedan with a 138-hp all-wheel drive hybrid with a combined 50 mpg, one of the most impressive in the segment. Toyota's SafetySense 3.0 system comes on the Corolla hybrid as standard, with the touchscreen infotainment system being one of the most intuitive available. The Corolla hybrid also has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

While it is no longer in production, you can still purchase a gorgeous pre-owned Acura ILX luxury sedan for less than $30,000. The last time it was on sale, the ILX retailed for $27,300 for the base model, which would only increase to $33,200 for higher-specced editions.

Power for the final version of the ILX came from a 2.4-liter K24Z7/V7 inline-four, producing 201 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. As an entry-level Acura, the ILX was fast, comfortable, and economical, with 39 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. Acura dropped the ILX in 2022, replacing it with the new Integra.

Honda has a legendary reputation for reliability, and no car showcases this better than the current Honda Accord. A staple of the Honda range, the Accord still looks the part, and its $27,895 MSRP makes it more attractive.

Add in the option of a 204-hp hybrid powertrain, and the Accord is nearly an irresistible sedan. The fuel economy is excellent, too, with 29 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Infotainment comes via a crystal clear 12.3-inch touchscreen, and Honda also gives you the option of a 1.5-liter turbocharged Accord, producing 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque.

Few sports cars in the world are available for less than $30,000. For the money, you get an excellent-looking sports car with a near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Power for the MX-5 comes from a 2.0-liter DOHC SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine producing 181 hp.

The Corolla Hybrid isn't Toyota's only hybrid offering. Its flagship is the Toyota Prius, which received a massive upgrade for the 2024 model year with bold new styling. The Prius has gone from being the subject of jokes to one of the coolest-looking hybrids on the market.

A starting price of $27,950 makes it an even more attractive option. For the money, you get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine, producing 194 hp in front-wheel drive spec and 196 hp in all-wheel drive. The fuel economy stands out at 57 mpg combined in the latest Prius LE.

Ford brought the Bronco back for the 2021 model year, and it was quickly one of the most anticipated car launches of 2020. In addition to the standard offering, Ford produces the Bronco Sport, a slightly higher-performance version with an 181-hp three-cylinder turbocharged engine under the hood.

Even a few years after its introduction, the Bronco Sport is still available for less than $30k with a $29,795 MSRP. It comfortably seats five people and is one of the best-looking SUVs currently on the market. The optional Heritage edition (pictured) is the standout of the Bronco Sport range, though that beauty will bring you to above $32,000.

Chevrolet Trailblazer

For those who want the practicality of an SUV yet don't want a full-size leviathan, the Chevrolet Trailblazer is the car to consider. The 2025 Trailblazer is one of the most attractive compact SUV offerings on the market, and it is currently available with an MSRP of just $23,100.

There is comfortable seating for five passengers inside the Trailblazer, and Chevrolet's infotainment system is one of the best on the market.

Kia Soul

It might be one of the oddest-looking vehicles on the market, but the Kia Soul certainly stands out because of that. You shouldn't deride this funky crossover, especially with a remarkable MSRP of just $20,290. The base model has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque.

Other key features include Android and Apple connectivity, blind spot detection lane keeping, and following assist technology. The Soul has four trims available, and the most expensive EX trim still costs less than $30,000 with an MSRP of $24,590.

Chevrolet Colorado

Pickup trucks are some of the more expensive vehicles on the market, but you can find some for less than $30,000. The current Chevrolet Colorado is among one of the best skirting below that price. This mid-size truck currently retails for $29,500, and it is easily one of the leading trucks in its class.

Power comes from various engines, including the 2.8-liter VM inline-four turbo diesel that produces up to 197 hp. The output varies depending on the trim level that the customer selects. Even as a mid-size truck, the Colorado has an impressive towing capacity of 7,700 lbs.

Nissan Leaf EV

Reliability still plays an integral part with electric vehicles. For those looking for a budget-friendly and reliable EV, the Nissan Leaf remains one of the best options on the market. It's affordable, comfortable, and stylish, and starting at $28,140, it is one of the cheapest EVs money can buy.

If you upgrade to the Nissan Leaf SV Plus, you'll benefit from a range of 212 miles, but you sacrifice that sub-$30,000 price tag by about $6,000. Despite its more budget-friendly price, the base Leaf is still an excellent-looking EV with a comfortable and spacious interior. Better electric cars are on the market, but few offer a similar value for the money as the Leaf.

Nissan Altima

One of Nissan's other excellent products is the Altima, a sedan that has long been a part of the company's portfolio. The 2024 model currently retails at $26,370, putting it in a great place alongside its rivals: Toyota's Corolla and Camry and Honda's Accord and Civic.

Power is the same on all trim levels, with the Altima providing 188 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. This is thanks to the 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine under the hood. Nissan offers four trims of the Altima, three of which are available for less than $30,000. The Altima SR FWD is the most expensive of those three, with an MSRP of $28,570.

You will have to pay over $30,000 for the hybrid Sonata, but $800 more. The hybrid offers a remarkable 51 mpg on the highway and a combined power output of 192 hp. The base model of the gas Sonata has a 2.5-liter MPI/GDI four-cylinder under the hood with 191 hp.
