A Must Have In Your Car A Emergency Kit

When you are stuck in the middle of nowhere due to a flat tire, the very first thought is why you didn’t prepare for this situation before. Emergencies can’t be anticipated, so the only way to tackle them is advance planning and precautions. If you take the necessary steps, you won’t be caught unawares if you face problematic scenarios. This is one of the biggest fears  I have.

An emergency car kit should contain the following at least:

If you get stuck on the road at night, how can you look under the hood, make repairs or change tires without sufficient light? That is why you need a powerful and sturdy flashlight (waterproof too) with some extra batteries to keep it going. Headlights or interior lights might give out as well, in which case the flashlight is your only ally in the dark.

A first aid kit can be immensely useful to you at all times. Keep bandages, basic medicines and tablets, gauze, ointment, etc. in it. Emergency situations on the road can be dealt with in a much easier way if you have some first aid supplies handy.

It can take some time before help arrives. Since you don’t know how long you might have to wait, store perishable food items in your car so that you don’t feel hungry during that time. Keep distilled water with you at all times to quench your thirst and also pour some into your radiator to cool down the engine.

Even if you have a lug wrench and jack to help you change tires, purchase a ready-made survival kit from the local hardware stores. You never know when there might be a need for pliers, socket and open-end wrenches, and a multi-tip screwdriver.

Being out on the road because of a breakdown on a chilly winter night is an unpleasant experience. The very first task is to combat the cold. A blanket can serve the purpose and it doesn’t even take up too much space in the trunk. Moreover, if you have to change a tire, you can use the blanket to lie upon it, so that it provides some comfort during the task.

Don’t forget to carry work gloves and rags – repairing vehicles is messy and leaves nasty stains on clothes if you wipe your hands on them.

Always be safe than sorry – you might not face emergencies, but for the fraction of a chance that you do land in trouble, you will know exactly how to get out.
