How To Prioritise The Things On Your To Do List
Does your to-do list goes on for pages and pages, and never seems to end? It’s a common thing for many of us to never feel like we never reach the end of things we need to-do. As a result, it can feel totally overwhelming trying to manage it all. Sometimes, it can seem so long that we want to ignore it altogether!
This is why you need to prioritize the things on your to-do list. Some things can get pushed right down for a few weeks or even months. However, there are other tasks that will cause more harm than good if you don’t deal with them. Here are some examples.
What Will Cost Money If You Leave It?
Prioritize things that are building up in cost the longer you leave them. It could be something as simple as a library book that is overdue. Every day you don’t prioritize it, the fines are building up. While they might be small, it can grow quickly! A library book is a pretty basic example, but this kind of cost build up can apply to lots of different things. So, if something is costing you money because you aren’t handling it, move it to the top of your list.
What Will Damage Your Health If You Leave It?
Now, this one can be split into lots of different categories. This is because the term ‘health’ is such a wide, umbrella term. However, it applies to things that are damaging your health today, or might mean damage to your health in the future. So, have you been meaning to see a dentist? Or quit smoking? Or wondering how to stop drinking, or at least cut down? Stop thinking that these things will wait; they won’t. The longer you leave them, the more harm that is being done. As for potential damage to your health in the future, your smoke alarm is a great example. If it has run out of batteries, or not been working properly, don’t keep putting it off. It could save your home, your life, and your families and neighbors lives, one day.
What Will Slow Down Your Career If You Leave It?
If your career is a big part of your life, you shouldn’t let things that will improve it slip down the list. Got a training course you’ve meant to go on for ages, that will make you eligible for a promotion? Are you self-employed, and want to take things to the next level with a course? Has your business taken off, but you need to get around to hiring more staff to help cope with the demand? Then prioritize these things and anything else of this nature too. If you don’t, you’re only slowing yourself down and lengthening the road to career success.
With these things in mind, you can put all of the above into three different categories. Be sure to prioritize;
-Things That Make You Safe
-Things That Make You Healthy
-Things That Make You Happy And More Fulfilled.
Everything else can wait until you’ve had another cup of coffee!
