Thanks to a plethora of at-home beauty treatments and a slew of online tutorials, you could easily treat yourself from head to toe in the comfort of your own home. This doesn’t mean, however, that you should.

While it’s easier than ever before to maintain and change your appearance yourself, there are certain beauty treatments you should leave to the pros.

“Why,” you ask?

Because they simply work better when someone who knows what they’re doing is in charge. So, before you cancel all your spa and salon appointments, consult the list below to learn which beauty treatments are better left to the professionals.

  1. Teeth Whitening

The shelves at your local Walmart are full of DIY teeth whitening kits, and while they are easy to do, you may be disappointed in the results. For true, noticeable teeth whitening, you need to see your dentist, especially if your teeth are extremely stained or discolored.

  1. Brow Shaping

Your eyebrows may be bushy, or they may be sparse, but either way, they should be shaped and maintained by a professional. Attempting to shape your brows at home can be difficult because you can’t see your entire face when looking so closely in a mirror.

Another perk of seeing a pro for brow shaping is that they can teach you how to fill in and define your brows properly. If you must do a little maintenance yourself between appointments, pluck sparingly as overplucking can make it more difficult for your pro. Just pluck those hairs that fall well outside your brow shape and leave the rest to your professional.

  1. A Bang Trim

Bangs can make or break a hairstyle, so this simple trim should be left to your favorite hairstylist. While it looks easy enough to just give a little snip here and another snip there, making a mistake when trimming your bangs may leave you sad and embarrassed for quite a long time as they tend to grow out slowly.

The next time you need a bang trim, call the salon rather than putting all your trust in YouTube tutorials!

  1. Microdermabrasion

Again, the market is full of beauty treatments and equipment that make consumers think they’re as good as experts in their own skincare. Microdermabrasion is one of those treatments that, no matter how many times you read the instructions on the machine you just bought, should never be attempted at home.

If done incorrectly, it can draw blood and damage the skin, possibly leaving you with scars. If you want smoother skin and your regular skincare routine isn’t cutting it, shell out the cash for an in-office microdermabrasion treatment.

  1. Hair Color

Do-it-yourself boxed hair color can be confusing and challenging to apply for many people. The instructions make it look simple, but getting an even application is difficult at best. Then there’s the issue of the color looking vastly different to the picture on the box.

It’s best to make an appointment with your stylist if you want to color your hair. This is especially important if you’re wanting highlights or lowlights as these treatments require precise color placement. We know professional hair color can be expensive, but compared to the color mishaps that can (and do!) happen at home, it’s worth every cent.

You may be tempted to try your hand at some DIY beauty treatments to save money or time, but for the best results possible, leave the above-mentioned ones to the professionals. Trust us. You’ll be glad you did.
