As a homeowner, I value my home and my safety very highly. So I like to put measures in place that will protect the property as much as possible. Here are a few of the best security ideas I like to use.

Cameras are a fantastic method of home security. They deter crime, and you can keep an eye on the property. Only trouble is, they can be pricey. So you want to know a neat trick? Buy a dummy security camera like we did. It looks like the genuine article, and people will certainly think twice about trying to burgle us. But it cost a fraction of the price of getting a real camera.

Change the Locks

One of the first things we thought to do as a security measure was to change the locks. The locks we had beforehand were okay, but I wasn’t overly happy with them. So we changed them to something a little more secure. I also made sure we got a deadbolt lock fitted. This has made the front door much more sold and crime-resistant. I would recommend that you assess the lock situation in your home. If you have any doubts, you need to change and upgrade where possible.

Front Gates

We took a more novel approach to home security and got a front gate put up. Before we never had one, and there was always the worry of people trespassing. So we got wrought iron gates put up. And now our home feels like an impregnable fortress. The gates look great on the property, and they make everything feel much more secure.

Double Glazing

If your home isn’t decked out with double glazing, this needs to be top of your list. Double glazing serves so many purposes in a home. It makes the place comfortable and cuts costs on heating, etc. Plus you have an excellent method of security. Have you ever tried breaking into double glazing? It’s very difficult. Personally, I have double glazing throughout my home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

We have some big dogs at home, so they provide a brilliant security backup. People would think twice about targeting our home after seeing the dogs. I love my dogs, and in addition to companionship they also make great security guards. I can’t recommend getting dogs for security enough.

Intruder Alarm

Intruder alarms are your bread and butter for home security. These provide a deterrent for criminals because they’re noisy and difficult to deactivate. You need to make sure you keep your intruder alarm up to date. Think about getting the newest system on the market. This way you’re constantly evolving your home security as technology evolves. Consult with experts and find out the best system for your home.
