How do you typically find new activities to keep things interesting? Do you just decide on the same old place when the time comes? Finding new and exciting things to do doesn’t have to feel like a chore. If you’re in need of something to do, you just have to know where to look.

For a good time, start local

When it comes to finding activities in your area, it pays to use local business listings. You can tailor your searches to things like family activities, breweries, free events and more. Think there’s nothing to do where you live? Think again. Your area might be home to hidden gems you weren’t aware of.

In addition to local business listings, there are a host of resources available to help you find great things to do for the entire family.

Daily deal websites

Daily deal websites like Groupon or Livingsocial partner with area businesses to offer their services at a discounted rate for a limited time. Find deals on massages, yoga classes, group excursions, restaurants and various other activities. Just be sure to check the fine print to watch for expiration dates and any special conditions.

When you log into Facebook, click on the events tab. This will bring up the events tab to show you all of the local events in your area. Find Meetups, live music, or family events. You can RSVP to events and get reminders when the day draws closer.

Trip Advisor

You’ve probably used TripAdvisor at some point.  Use it to not only find local attractions, but to get real user reviews as well. TripAdvisor allows you to search for specific locations by name, or just find things to do in various cities. Available as both a desktop site or a mobile app, you can access at home or on the go.

Other resources

While this list is in no way the complete offering of local events listings nearby, we think these will give you a good place to start. If you’re still looking for something to do locally, Instagram or Pinterest can be good resources. Browse your followers pictures to find great new food or an undisturbed nature spot.

Google maps has a cool feature called explore, that allows you to do just that–explore. Find local hotspots and off the beaten path treasures with the app. The for you tab acts essentially as a news feed for local attractions that might pique your interest.

Looking for local live music? Bandsintown will tell you who’s playing tonight and where. RSVP and even buy tickets right from your phone.

Nearify is a great mobile app that allows you to find events near you. Search for events at your favorite venue or in your city. The quickies feature shows you what’s happening quickly. No more struggling to decide what to do.

If off the beaten path activities are more your bag, Atlas Obscura is for you. Use this handy site to discover all the oddities, lesser known places and interesting destinations in your area and around the globe. Feeling froggy? Choose random destination from the menu to find a unique attraction, like Fortville, IN’s pink martini drinking elephant statue. Be surprised wherever you go with destinations others have forgotten.

Use these great apps to find activities wherever you are. Shake up your boring old routine and find something new to do.
