What Is Cannabidiol Oil?

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD is a compound derivative from the cannabis plant. The plant consists of various chemical compounds, which are in fact called cannabinoids.

CBD is one of the many compounds that does not elicit intoxication and does not have psychoactive effects. This makes its application of interest to those who want the benefits of cannabis while avoiding the intoxication of its counterpart, THC.

The best results are achieved by choosing a cannabis strain, which has high levels of CBD, and none or insignificant quantities of THC. The process to make CBD oil is three-fold: hull the flowers, decarboxylate and infuse.

However, depending on what type of oil is being made, what technology is being used, and what end result is expected – the process may vary.

But let's cover whether or not marijuana is better than hemp flower for you.

Which Is Better: Hemp or Marijuana?

In order to prepare an effective CBD oil, you have to first acquire a quality flower, which is high in CBD and has a low amount of THC. This can be done by buying directly from a supplier, or it can be done by growing your own feminized CBD hemp seeds.

When it comes to the flowers for the purpose of CBD oil, two come to mind. High CBD marijuana with low THC or antiquated hemp flower, which has even higher amounts of CBD.

The former covers a variety of strains, such as Cannatonic, CBD Shark, ACDC, Rubicon, Hawaiian Dream, so on and so forth. Some of the strains have pretty high THC, but it just has a lesser ratio to the percentage of CBD in the flower. Some enjoy the combination of the many effects from the many flowers, as well as the full-spectrum oil that can be produced from it.

Entourage Effect

The latter is quite different from the high CBD marijuana because in legal terms it can only contain 0.3 THC or less, which is so insignificant, you won't feel it. A high CBD hemp flower does not have as many terpenes as a marijuana plant, but new strains are coming out by the day, so fingers crossed.

A full-spectrum oil from the hemp flower can provide you with the entourage effect, which compounds all of the original effects of the flower. Some strains are Pine Berry, Special Sauce, Sour Space Candy, Elektra. The flower is harvested at peak growth, and then trimmed by hand, and finally – cured.

There's more. The great news about the CBD hemp flower is that is fully legal under regulation, thus you don't need to scheme your way into finding a strain that you have to hide when you're making your oil. These flowers can be ordered online, and shipped to your door.

Make Your Own CBD Oil

Most people argue that you cannot produce extremely concentrated CBD oil without advanced technology and extraction techniques, and even though that might be true. You can make your own CBD oil, which will work for you.

The most common extraction method employs the use of alcohol, but it can be done with oils, such as coconut and olive. The resulting oil can be used for tinctures, edibles, or vaping.

So go get your flower, either hemp or marijuana, and let's create your own CBD oil. You will also need basic equipment, such as mixing bowls, high-quality alcohol, coffee filters, fine strainer, double burner, metal paperclip, stovetop, lighter.

Before you make the oil, make sure to cool the alcohol in the fridge.

Here's how the process will go:

  1. Place dried/ground flower in a glass bowl for mixing.
  2. Pour cold alcohol in the bowl, covering all flowers.
  3. Use a wooden spoon to mix, continue to do so for 5 minutes.
  4. Run solution through a strainer, the liquid should have an amber-green color, pour into a glass bowl.
  5. Filter the liquid with a coffee filter.
  6. Place a double boiler on the stovetop, and put the liquid in the double boiler (top pan).
  7. Turn on medium heat, monitor until bubbles appear. Lower heat, simmer on low for 30 minutes.
  8. Once alcohol evaporated, mix the oil and remove it from the stovetop.
  9. Straighten the paperclip and put one end in the oil. Step away and use lighter to light paperclip. If it catches fire, alcohol is still in the oil, so more heating is required.
  10. Once evaporation is done, move CBD oil to a small bottle. The quantity will depend on how many flowers you had.
  11. Store the oil in a dry, cool place, and use it ASAP.

And that's about it. Now you have your own CBD Oil, which you can use for whatever healing purposes that you like.
