Tour California’s Wineries Through A Unique, Beautiful Experience!

I love to drink wine. Port wine and Pinot Noir are my favorites. However, I’m far from a wine connoisseur. So, at first when I was introduced to a new book, Wine Country Table: With Recipes that Celebrate California’s Sustainable Harvest, by Janet Fletcher, I was a bit intimidated. I thought, “Who am I to read a food expert’s book on wineries?”  But, then I opened the book, turned the pages, and I was immediately mesmerized.

Wine Country Table is a beautiful book featuring various wineries throughout California. When many of us hear about California’s wineries, we tend to think of only Napa Valley. However, California has wineries all over—in the northern part, the southern part, and in the areas in between. This book provides you with a tour of many of them. And, what makes this tour special is that it provides a down-to-earth view of the wineries, giving the reader an unusual, fascinating perspective into the history and present-day lives of the winery and of the people who run and operate them.

Recipes That Are Sure To Delight

And, let’s not forget the food!  The book’s recipes utilize the various foods California is blessed to be able to produce. And, when I look at the recipes and their pictures in this book, I want to make every single one of them. Wine Country Table features recipes in the following categories:

  • breakfast & brunch,
  • appetizers,
  • soups,
  • salads & sides,
  • main dishes, and
  • desserts & sweets.

I’m a super big fan of smoothies and made the book’s Dried Plum-Buttermilk Smoothie. It was a bit different in terms of the ingredients it uses (compared to typical smoothies) and it turned out absolutely delicious! And, it’s one I consider healthy and a quick, easy-to-make recipe.  I made it for my family and they also really enjoyed it.

I can’t wait to make a lot of the other recipes in this book, too (especially the main dish recipes). Many of the recipes don’t require a long list of ingredients but they take advantage of the individual flavors of foods that work well together to create a meal you’ll want to eat over and over. And, even though many of the recipes aren’t overly complex, they’re delicious and perfect for serving to guests, as well as family.  One that I plan on making this upcoming week is Pappardelle with Walnut-Kale Pesto.

A Perfect Gift For the Wine Aficionado

Wine Country Table would make a wonderful gift for many, including those who enjoy wine and those who enjoy great food!
