9 Design Ideas to Inspire Your Next Home Makeover

If you’re moving into a new home or just getting bored of your space’s look, now is the time to consider a home makeover. From installing crown molding to upgrading your bathroom to be your at-home spa, there are many upgrades to consider when doing a home makeover. If you’re looking to source some inspiration, here are 9 ideas to inspire your home renovation

  1. Add wallpaper

Wallpaper is making a comeback, and adding some as accent wall pieces is a great way to customize your space. Wallpaper comes in various designs, colors, patterns, and ranges in price per footage. Applying wallpaper is a great way to hide flaws on your walls and is easy to maintain.

Whether your walls are brick, wood, or concrete, you can apply wallpaper to virtually any surface. If you’re crafty, you can easily take on this project with some research beforehand. However, if you don’t want to do it yourself, you can rely on some local experts to do the job for a fee. With the proper methods and strategies, removing wallpaper should be relatively simple, making it a great choice if you’re picky or planning to change it up in the future.

  1. Upgrade your kitchen

If your kitchen looks dated, there’s a range of upgrades you can do to make a significant impact. Whether you’re visualizing your dream kitchen or just trying to add your style to the space, there are many upgrades you can do even with a small budget. If your walls need some spice, consider adding a backsplash and some art to the walls. Or, if you want to go big, upgrade your cabinets.

You can also add a personal touch to your kitchen with unique kitchen towels and tea towels, reusable napkins, reorganize your cabinets with saving-storage systems, and make a display with a fruit bowl and a vase of flowers. There are upgrades, both big and small to boost the look of your kitchen and make your space more welcoming.

  1. Revamp your bathroom

Bathrooms are another area of the home to consider when thinking about your home makeover. You’d be surprised at how much time we spend in our bathrooms, so why not make the space relaxing? If you have old bathroom appliances, upgrading to water-saving fixtures helps save you money on your bill but are better in overall quality too. Some other upgrades to make in your bathroom are replacing your showerhead, painting your walls, replacing towels with higher-quality linens, adding art to your walls, and upgrading your shower tiles.

If you want to replace it all, consider what feeling you want your bathroom to evoke. Do you take a lot of baths and have an intricate skincare routine? Add beauty lights to your mirror and install a magnified mirror in your bathroom. Thinking about how you want your bathroom to function before considering design can help you create the bathroom of your dreams

  1. DIY crown molding

Crown molding adds a luxurious look to any room. Adding a little detail to your walls makes your rooms feel bigger and chicer. If you’re handy with tools, crown molding can be done yourself, and if you’re not, be prepared to learn a new skill.

You can find various online resources to teach you how to install crown molding, but generally, you’ll need a nail gun, saw, tape measure, masking tape, and crown molding materials. You can purchase crown molding or make it yourself, but we recommend saving it for professionals if you’re not knowledgeable about the tools and skills. Buying it yourself may be slightly more expensive, but the investment is worth the upgraded look.

  1. Update lighting fixtures

Lighting fixtures are a smaller upgrade on the list but have a huge impact on the look of your home. Dim lighting makes your home feel cozy, while bright lighting can bring life into your home. Instead of squinting your eyes are stark bright blue-white lights, opt for a yellow soft tone to keep your home from feeling like a hospital. If you want to control your home lights from your phone, install smart LED bulbs that allow you to pick various hues and tones as well as control them right from their app.

  1. Create a gallery wall

Gallery walls may not be a major upgrade to your home, but they certainly add a personal touch. Collect images you love and have them printed in various sizes. Then collect the frames you need to build your gallery wall. You can either curate a collection of different frames over time or buy them all at once. Then get painter’s tape and use it to create a stencil of where you want images to go. This helps you envision the perfect organization for your images based on the size of your wall. After you can install your frames for your friends and family to enjoy.

  1. Work in some greenery

Bringing a little of the outdoors inside brings new life into your home, literally and figuratively. Taking on gardening as a hobby makes your home look great but supports your mental health too. Go to the store and purchase some easy-maintenance plants. Some good options are Pothos, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Monstera, and Snake plants. These plants are generally easy for new owners and are good places to start if you’re working on your green thumb. You can also work with a landscaping company on bigger projects involving your yard or garden too.

  1. Organize

Organizing your home is a necessary undertaking if your space feels cluttered. To organize your home, start by separating junk you don’t need. With any items you don’t want but are in good condition, consider donating them or hosting a yard sale on the weekend. After you’ve gotten ridden of items you don’t need, look for key areas to target that need some Marie Kondo-ing. Our closets and kitchen cabinets are hot spots for chaos, so look into organization methods to help maximize your space.
