Tips for Detailing the Interior of Your Car

It’s disappointing when you expect a perfectly clean car, step inside, and the interior is gross. It happens to us all. The interior of a car sees a lot, from work commutes to night out on the town and everyday errands. Therefore, it often collects dirt and grime. Still, you may be unsure how to clean it. The outside is easy since you can run it through a car wash. If you’d like an immaculate dashboard, a spotless floor, and clean seats, check out these tips for detailing your car's interior.

Gather Your Materials

It’s no fun to climb into the car to clean it and not have everything you need. Gather the following equipment and have it all with you near the car:

  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Vacuum with hose
  • Glass cleaner
  • Leather cleaner
  • Carpet cleaner
  • Bucket of soapy water
  • Scrub brush

Remove the Floor Mats

Take out the floor mats and lay them on the ground. The easiest way to clean them is to spray them off with a hose. However, if the weather isn’t cooperating, you can use a bucket of soapy water and a scrub brush. Let them dry to put back in later.

Vacuum the Seats and Floor

With a vacuum, you can suck up the months of crumbs and other debris off the floor and seats. Using a hose attachment, get into the cracks and crevices between the seats. You don’t want to miss anything that may have fallen out of sight.

Wash the Dashboard, Console, and Cup Holders

Wipe down the console, dashboard, and cup holders using the disinfecting wipes. Some cup holders are removable, which is helpful if they’re very messy. You can bring them into the house and wash them by hand or run them through the dishwasher.

Clean the Windows

The interior windows and windshields get dirty, and you may not realize how filthy they are until you see them clean. Use the window cleaner to shine all the interior surfaces of the windows.

Clean the Carpets and Seats

You may be able to skip this step depending on how often you need to clean your car’s interior and, of course, your lifestyle. Vehicles that receive monthly detailing will be less dirty than ones waiting for a year.

If the seats and carpet have spots and stains, use the carpet cleaner for the floors and the leather cleaner for the seats. You can alternatively use an upholstery cleaner if you have cloth seats.

When you follow these tips for detailing your car’s interior, you’ll feel better every time you step inside your vehicle.
